Purple Teal Tie Dye African Mud Cloth, Vintage Textile, 36" x 62"

Add to Wishlist

This rare and beautiful piece of Mud Cloth (traditionally called Bògòlanfini) fabric is from Mali, West Africa. The name quite literally translates into "earth with cloth." Mud Cloth is usually woven by men, then dyed by women. It is worn by both men and women, and has great cultural significance to the people of Mali. Mud Cloth is traditionally made in earth tones of brown, tan, and black.

This fabric is Strip Cloth, meaning it is comprised of strips of fabric that have been sewn together, and this one is quite unusual in that it is sewn from 2 different colors; I rarely come across these 2-color cloths. This piece is made of 9 strips. How about using it as a festival blanket, wall hanging, making pillows....the possibilities are endless.

This piece is in excellent condition, except for one place where there is a small tear, approx. 1", and a larger tear that has already been lovingly stitched up. These in no way detract from the piece, and they could easily be reinforced.

Fabric measures 36" wide x 62" long.

I have lots of other textiles. Click here to shop.
